Who We Are

Established in 2023 and registered under the Trust Act and the Government of India’s NGO Darpan, WBVBDS is a collaborative network connecting voluntary blood donor organisations, camp organisers and compassionate citizens throughout West Bengal. We are recognised by the National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Our constitution and framework were formally adopted in March 2024 at the 1st State Conference in Bardhaman, and revised in January 2026 at the 3rd State Conference in Sagardighi, Murshidabad.

Our Objectives

  1. 100% voluntary blood donation. Eliminate replacement donation by ensuring every government blood centre relies entirely on voluntary donors.
  2. Stronger healthcare infrastructure. Advocate for better government blood transfusion services and public oversight of private blood service providers.
  3. National policy advocacy. Press for a comprehensive National Blood Transfusion Act and its proper enforcement, to guarantee safe transfusion.
  4. Awareness and education. Inform the public about transfusion-transmissible infections such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis, blood safety and general health.
  5. Community unity. Strengthen the bond between donors, camp organisers and local volunteers, and discourage gifts or commercial incentives at donation camps.
  6. Observance of key health days. Mark World Red Cross Day (8 May), World Blood Donor Day (14 June) and National Voluntary Blood Donation Day (1 October) across the state.
